Dr. Ted King answered

Thrombosis: A thrombus is a clot. Thrombosis is the condition or state of a thrombus having formed. It is a very technical distinction and most doctors ignore. We tend to use thrombus and thrombosis interchangeably, but technically they have different meanings.
