Asthma: Asthma is the most frequent cause of multiple episodes of pneumonia. If the asthma is well controlled, pneumonia should be a very uncommon event. Other causes of frequent pneumonia can include immune dysfunction, recurrent aspiration, foreign body aspiration, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis.

Several conditions such as aspiration, immune deficiencies (congenital or acquired), airway defects, abnormal clearance of mucus (pcd) or cystic fibrosis are associated with frequent pneumonias.
