Answer varies: Guggul (commiphora mukul) is an herb which may help lower cholesterol. Studies have shown varying results and in my personal practice I have seen it work in some people very well and not work in others. I generally advise people to recheck their levels after three months taking three times a day of a standardized guggul extract. If there has been little change, then i would not continue.

Guggul: GUGGUL (AKA Commiphora mukul, Guggulipid, Indian Bedellium, and Commiphora wightii) is a traditional Ayurvedi medicine. The meaning in Sanskrit is “one that protects against diseases”. It has traditionally been used to treat obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis & sciatica. Although it has been reported to decrease cholesterol / triglycerides - studies have not shown positive results.
