A member asked:

What the reason for serum lipase to increase in pancreatitis?

Cellular damage: Lipase is a fat-digesting enzyme normally produced by the pancreas, which travels thru the pancreatic duct to enter into the intestine. Inflammation of the pancreas leads to the release of pancreatic enzymes out of the ducts and into the surrounding tissue, where it is promptly absorbed into the bloodstream.
