Signs can be subtle: The liver performs numerous functions. Easy bleeding or bruising may show the liver is not making clotting factors well. Swelling of lower legs may mean the liver is not making enough albumin, a type of protien. Jaundice or yellow skin means the liver is not processing the broken down red blood cells well. Dark urine can mean bilirubin is excreted by kidneys rather than liver.
