Neti : Neti pots will relieve sinus pressure if performed properly, but they can cause problems. If you truly have a sinus infection, as opposed to seasonal sinusitis, you need to see your physician for a diagnosis and possibly antibiotic treatment.

A : A neti pot can help to cleanse the sinus/ nasal area. However, it will not cure an infection that is in place. If there are signs of infection, she should see her physician.

If : If symptoms are not improving or ameliorated within one week despite conservative measures such as a neti pot /sinus irrigation and decongestants, you probably should be seen. If the pain is progressing, or the drainage is purulent ( malodorous and pus-like) you should be seen sooner for initiation of antibiotic therapy. A neti pot will not treat an infectious cause for sinonasal complaints, it merely removes particulate and secretory matter, and often affords symptomatic relief for mild congestive/inflammatory symptoms.
