A : A hole in the intestine will often lead to life-threatening infections if left untreated, and usually requires emergency surgery. This is most commonly seen with a perforated ulcer, diverticulitis, perforated appendicitis, etc. However, i believe what you are describing is a therapeutic procedure to remove excess fluid from the abdominal cavity, known as paracentesis. This is done with a skinny needle (typically under ultrasound-guidance). Intestinal injury is rare, however a small needle hole may seal without the need for any surgical intervention.
