I am retired military, i have had two umbilical hernia surgeries and i still have some pertruding when i stress sometimes. also two different military doctors performed each surgery but in the second surgery i woke up with oxygen tubes in my nose and pads

Hello. : Hello. Thank you for your military service. Don't know if you get your care from naval hospital jacksonville, vamc or tricare network, but you need to be reevaluated to determine if this is still a herniation.

Unfortunately, : Unfortunately, the most common complication of hernia surgery is hernia recurrence. Factors that contribute to recurrence include obesity, persistent strenuous activity, smoking, and the method of hernia repair. I recommend that you see a hernia surgeon for a formal physical exam to determine if this "protrusion" is a hernia (btw-we keep all patients on oxygen in the early postoperative period and ekg pads are placed on all patients during surgery).
