Hearing : Hearing loss can manifest in many ways. The loss may be partial, covering certain frequency ranges, or it can involve only one ear. The hearing loss can involve a problem with the structures in the ear or can involve the nervous system. The only way to determine the presence of a hearing loss and to characterize it is to be examined by a ENT physician and have a hearing test.

I : I agree with dr. Funari. Hearing loss is very variable and nothing you really want to take for granted. If you or anyone else is worried, then get a hearing test. Sometimes the primary care doctor can do a screening, but is that is abnormal, you will need to get a full test. Most common cause of hearing loss ina young child is fluid in the middle ear. This will usually go away on its own, but needs to be followed. Has there been a recent cold or respiratory infection? Anyone else in the family have hearing loss? Are there any speech/language delays? Frequent ear infections? A whisper test can lead to other testing if you feel it is abnormal, but do not rely on it to determine if there is a real problem or not.
