Do hospitals drug test newborns? drug test

Newborn : Newborn babies are not generally tested for drugs unless there is a suspicion that the mother had ingested some drugs or the baby is showing signs suggestive of drug exposure.

Depends: There have some jurisdictions where laws have been passed calling for such testing, but a few appeals court decisions have gone in different directions, so there is no national policy. It is generally done if there is a suspicion that the mother has been using drugs through the pregnancy, or if the baby shows signs of a neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Some hospitals have their own policies on this.

Depends: In my state if you end up on the Child & Family Services list, or the delivery team suspects, you can expect such testing.It is not done on all newborns. If we need to look, we can identify any drug exposure after about 20 weeks.
