Resuscitation: The most critical part of nursing after a AAA repair is the immediate post-operative period- especially if the repair is done in an open fashion. There are dramatic fluid shifts that occur and close monitoring of acid-base status, blood pressure, blood counts, and breathing are critical. Once the breathing tube is out and the patients starts to eat, the focus becomes pain control and slow rehab.

Nursing care?: There is no nursing care needed before repair and the care after repair would be no different than any moderate sized procedure. If the aneurysm is fixed with an endovascular technique, very little post procedure care is needed.
