If : If there is mobility to the tooth one of two things are most likely happening: (1) there is a significant infection pushing the tooth out of the socket or (2) there is advanced gum disease causing significant bone loss. Only a clinical examination with x-rays can determine the exact nature of the problem and whether the tooth can saved.

Depending upon the condition of the tooth, the cause and extent of the possible infection and the condition of the surrounding teeth, bone and gums, a dentist would be able to properly advise you not only if and how the tooth could be saved, but more importantly should you try to save it.

You're : You're being given good advise and accurate descriptions of what may be going on. It is impossible to diagnose the problem without an exam and an x-ray. Yes, under some circumstances this tooth can be saved, but can't tell yet. Call for a dental appointment asap!
