Hello, : Hello, the treatment would depend on which ligament it is and how badly it is torn. While you wait to see the doctor, recommend that you rest the leg when possible. Additionally a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication like Motrin could help with pain and inflammation. If it is a fresh tear (less than 48 hours) consider use of ice for 20 minutes at a time about every four hours. A bag of frozen peas works very well for this purpose. Good luck.

Rest, : Rest, ice, compression, and elevation (rice) will help with pain and swelling. This will make your doctor's visit easier, both in terms of pain, and in terms of getting an accurate diagnosis. Not all ligament injuries need surgery, and ligament surgery is never an emergency. Take the time to discuss this with your doctor. Good luck!
