I : I am not sure if the plan you have has an orthodontic rider. You need to discuss this with the carrier directly. If your malocclusion is that bad, consult with an orthodontist who can physically examine you for advice.

Make a call!: Call the insurance carrier to see if your policy covers braces, or check with hr if you work for a big company. Finding out will not take much effort: if it is covered it will almost surely be partial coverage and you will have to make a sizable personal investment. Having said all that: orthodontics is a wonderful lifetime gift to yourself. The value returned is far greater than you may think!

Call for answer: Depends on what coverage your employer bought from the ins co's list. Most plans that have orthodontic riders partially fund treatment up to age 18-19. As an adult w a severe open bite you may also need jaw surgery, and again coverage varies. Call you insurance carrier or your companies hr department, then go see an orthodontist for an exam. They've had that question before.
