Heart Disease: The #1 cause of death in women is heart disease. It is a universally under-appreciated problem, but specifically in the United States. Diet, excercise, "baby aspirin", and regular checkups with your doctor are good preventive measures, particularly if you have a family history of high cholesterol or heart disease.

Female death causes: The leading cause of death in females remains heart disease (myocardial infarction) at or after "true" menopause. The risk of a heart attack is increased in women as opposed to men after cessation of estrogen production in the ovaries. Attention to weight gain and other risk factors is therefore important to reduce the incidence. See your gyn physician for advice on this.
