A member asked:

Falls are a leading cause of death among the elderly. do they remove part of the skull in them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes.: Sometimes with a head injury the brain will bleed and a large clot is formed (hematoma). This can cause neurological symptoms that may necessitate removing part of the skull to remove the clot and relieve the pressure. Sometimes the bone can be replaced and some people have plates put over the area.
