Hello, : Hello, hiccups usually feel different than palpitations. A hiccup occurs when the diaphragm spasms. The diaphragm is a large muscle that rests between the lungs on one side and the abdominal contents of the other side. Hiccups can be both painful and annoying. Causes for hiccups can include: eating too much, especially if you shovel it down. Swallowing a lot of air. Changes in the temperature of the stomach (think drinking a frostie freeze followed by drink a cup of really hot chocolate). Getting emotionally excited or feeling really stressed are other causes. People who smoke cigarettes or who drink a lot of alcohol can also get hiccups. Although i can't say why your hiccups started, it may been from eating too much at the restaraunt. Hiccups usually do start suddenly. Occassionally hiccups can have a serious cause, but if you are a young, healthy male, would not make that a top consideration. Usually hiccups stop within minutes to several hours of starting. If you get hiccups that last more than 48 hours, you can consider treatment with medical acupuncture as one option.

Chest pain in the ER: There are many causes of chest pain. Some are dire emergencies while others are from minor conditions. In an er we are mainly concerned with making sure you don't require emergency intervention. It can be frustrating for patients when all of our er tests are normal. However this is always good news! even if a final answer to your symptoms is not found in the er, for many it is place to start.
