Early : Early ambulation - I am for it and make the patient walk, usually within two hours. But, i ask my patients to wait 2-3 days before going up and down the stairs.

Today : Today most plastic surgeons encourage early ambulation with the tummy tuck procedure. We ceratinly advise our patients to walk around the house upon discharge and if they desire, they may go up and down stairs (with assistance initially) cautiously and slowly. It is important to limit the actual abdominal muscle activity after this surgery for at least several days and sleeping in a recliner (easy to get in and out of) is recommended to our patients.

Ambulation : Ambulation and gentle activity after an abdominoplasty is generally encouraged especially to minimize and reduce the risks of deep venous thrombosis with pulmonary embolism. Ascending the stairs in a slow fashion with assistance is adviseable 2-3 times a day after surgery. However doing this 10 times a day may be excessive and increase the risks of seroma.

Depending : Depending on your surgeon's approach and your weight, you may either be able to walk up the stairs just hours after your or a few days. Good luck from nyc. For more info visit www.Drgrossman.Com.

Immediately but...: Most patients are able to climb stairs immediately after surgery. This is best done with help on either side of you and in a very slow/patient fashion. Best wishes.
