Irregular bleeding: The main drawback is that estrogen-free methods are associated with more breakthrough bleeding or irregular bleeding.

No estrogen: #1 slightly higher risk of unintended pregnancy. #2 less effective "cycle control" as compared to "regular" or combination ( progestin and estrogen) birth controp pills. On the positive side, they can be used while nursing or other times when estrogen is inappropriate.

Diverse diet: Progesterone is formed internally from cholesterol in the ovary. Progesterone levels depend on effective ovulation. Low fat diets can lower Progesterone levels. Normal fat levels, including essential oils (dha, omega-3) are helpful to maintaining good ovulation.

How would I know if the progesterone IUD is in the right place?

Feel for the strings: Strings are attached to your iud. Reach into your vagina until you feel something hard like the end of your nose. This is the cervix or birth canal. You should be able to feel the strings (2) as you move your finger around the cervix like a clock . If you can't feel the strings (they may curl into the cervix), ask your doctor to find it by ultrasound. Strings = proper placement.

Very safe option : The Progesterone IUD is a safe effective birth control method. The main risk is that it falls out (1/1760). Failures are very rare but if pregnancy occurs the risk of an ectopic pregnancy (being pregnant in the fallopian tubes) is 25%. There is a very small risk of injury when it is being inserted.
