In general, though of course all patients are different due to body type, the uterus can be palpated (felt on examination) above the pubic bone at 12 weeks, though in some women it can definitely be palpated earlier. At 20 weeks, the uterus is usually up to the umbilicus (belly button), and at around 36 weeks it is up to the xiphoid (the tip of the sternum).
