Did : Did your dentist explain to you that you had gingivitis at your most recent visit, or did you assume you have gingivitis because your gums are bleeding and they are sore? Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontitis. You may have gingivitis, or the early stages of periodontitis. Either way, store bought toothpastes & mouthwashes will not cure your problem. The first step is to get evaluated, and then have a thorough cleaning to remove any accumulated calculus. As long as there is calculus stuck to your teeth and bridgework, your gums will be inflammed. Once your teeth are professional cleaned, then you can begin to heal by using different medicaments and mouthwashes/toothpastes. Your dentist, after evaluation your condition, will give you his/her thoughts based on your individual condition. Hope this info helps.

No : No over the counter remedy is going to solve your problem! tooth decay and gum disease are preventable i could almost say 100% preventable, if people would just keep there mouths clean and their diet healthy and the stress out of their lives. If you were to brush and floss use no toothpaste and no mouth rinse you could probably clear up gingivitis in six days, and if you did use tooth paste and a rinse it might take half a dozen. The important thing is to be consistent and effective in the way you perform proper oral hygiene. Toothpaste makes your breath smell sweeter and is a sudser which help mobilize the plaque away from the teeth once the brush has broken it down. Her is my suggestion, have your teeth professionally cleaned and have the doctor or probably even better the hygienist show you how to brush and floss properly. I have put a link below for you that might help! good luck dr neil mcleod dds dentistry that lasts - quality that counts.

OTC remedies do work: Home care using mouthwash, toothpaste, brushing, flossing, and visits to the dentists are all ways to reverse gingivitis. However, if gingivitis becomes more advanced, ie. Involves destruction of bone supporting the roots of teeth, then advance gum therapies, only available by your dentist is indicated.
