A : A cold is a virus. The majority of adult and child upper respiratory infections are viruses. This is why antibiotics don't usually help, they don't fight virus. Not all colds will have fever. The most contagious period is often before cold symptoms or fever are noticed. The next most contagious time is during symptoms, when we all try to be careful not to spread the germs. Unfortunately, people think theyre not contagious once they feel better, or when the fever clears, but for several days, even then, you are contagious, just much less so.
