Cold : Cold and cough medicine should not be used in a child under the age of 4 years. First of all, make sure your baby is seen by his doctor. There are certain conditions that cause cough that need antibiotics or steroids (i.E pneumonia, reactive airway, bronchitis). In the meantime a humidifier or cool mist vaporizer in the room where the baby sleeps may help. Also pediatric nasal saline drops helps with congestion, which can help decrease the cough. I hope he is better soon.

I wouldn't: The nasal & airway structure of young infants is quite different from older kids or adults. Studies have shown no benefit of cough/cold preparations to kids under 6. They also reflect a large number of ER visits and poison control calls from these meds. If you need something to do, keep track of fluid intake. That is more important overall & more likely to help baby.
