Work : Work hard, get good grades and visit a dental office and ask the dentist if you can observe or talk to him about what they do. I think the answers given above are great. What i would add is that a dentist must be skilled with her hands. Tinker with sculpture or other art or play that old operation game. Hand skills come naturally for some few but can be learned by most. This is what we do all day long. If you enjoy working with your hands and you have a passion for the health sciences then the dental profession needs someone like you.

To : To be a dentist, first you will need to complete four years of college. You can major in anything you want as long as you take the core science courses ( chemistry, biology, physics ). Then you will have to complete four years of dental school. As a high student, try taking the courses i described to see if it is a right fit for you.

Great Career Choice: Dentistry is a great career, although it's very difficult to get there. You need a strong background in math and science. You also need great interpersonal and leadership skills, so anything you can do to cultivate that helps. You also need very good grades in college so you can get into dental school. And, you should be able to write and speak well, especially during applications and interviews.
