Hernias : Hernias can certainly cause discomfort in the scrotum if a loop of bowel or fat from the abdomen bulges into that space and presses on the testicle. Another thing that can cause left scrotal pain is a condition called varicocele, which is basically a varicose vein in the scrotum. Treatment of the two conditions is very different. Diagnosis would require a physical exam and possibly an ultrasound study.

A : A surgeon will be able to tell you if you have a hernia. The diagnosis is quite simple and usually based on a very gentle physical exam.

It : It could be. Usually there is a small bulge with slight discomfort and pressure especially with activity. It gets worse the longer you are on your feet and active. See an experienced hernia surgeon. Not every hernia needs to be fixed. If the hernia is small and doesn't bother you, it can be followed (men only).

It : It is possible that you could have a hernia, but it is difficult to tell by your description. Hernias can cause a swelling, a pressure discomfort or aching. The only way to know is to have an examination by your doctor. Hernias are more common in men than women, and I do not know what aggravating factors that you may have.
