Treatment : Treatment of stage 1 prostate cancer varies on age, grade of cancer, comorbid condition and personal philosophy. You need to have thorough discussion with your urologist to discuss options between active surveillance, radical surger and radiation therapy along with outcomes and complications.

With : With a rising psa there is a possibility of prostate cancer being present. The biopsies you have had previously were likely transrectal which sample the posterior part of the gland. My general preference is to know what we are dealing with using the best tools. At our center you would first undergo a multiparametric MRI followed by a transperineal biopsy . Both of these studies would greatly improve the certainty that you either do or don't have cancer and if you did would give a good indication on how much and how aggressive. All of this information can be used to outline either a strategy for surveillance , watchful waiting or active treatment depending on the results. All of this may sound like a lot to go through but it will certainly give you and your physicians piece of mind. Good luck dr. Peter grimm prostate cancer center seattle peter@grimm.Com.
