Throbbing pain means: inflammation, generally due to an infection. You have any fever or chills, redness around the toe? Any Hx of Gout? Even with Phenolization of the nail matrix, sometimes a corner can still regrow. I would suggest seeing your PCP or even better, seeing the surgeon, to know what's going on? A few Labs for gout, a CBC, ESR etc would help to point towards a Dx. Good Luck.

Phenol: ...can kill the nail matrix from which the nail grows, so might explain lack of nail. If swelling with pain, may be due to abnormal healing, and will need seen by the Dr who did the procedure or a Podiatrist to determine problem.
