When : When the lymph nodes in more than one body region are swollen and tender (a condition called generalized lymphadenopathy), this frequently indicates the presence of a systemic condition, such as mononucleosis, lupus, hiv, lymphoma, leukemia, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, or rheumatoid arthritis. It isn't always possible to rule out all potential causes of generalized lymphadenopathy with bloodwork, and lymph node biopsy is often needed to determine if there's a serious underlying disorder -- particularly in persons who have other symptoms, such as fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss. Once in a while, the cause of generalized lymphadenopathy cannot be identified, and some people live normal, otherwise healthy lives despite persistent swelling in their lymph nodes. Talk to your doctor about whether your workup to date has truly been an exhaustive one. If you haven't had a lymph node biopsy performed yet, this could be revealing. I hope your concerns are addressed soon!
