Macular : Macular degeneration is a serious condition that requires frequent follow up with an eye specialist called an ophthalmologist. If your child is not under care, then you should have him evaluated right away. Dry eyes and pain could mean an infection, and this would require treatment with a prescription medication. In the meantime for the dryness he is experiencing over the counter artificial tears can be used. As far as your comment about being a sad mother, i think you may also benefit from seeking care from a therapist or mental health provider for evaluation and treatment. All the best to you and your son.

Eye irritation: The eye irritation symptoms are not relatedto your son's retinal problem. Many issues can cause eye irritation in young children so you need to see an eye doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
