A member asked:

Can you consciously control problems like night terrors or sleep walking?

Not really: Sleep walking and night terrors are a form of parasomnia, involuntary sleep/wake disturbances having both features of sleep and behaviors of wake. They usually subside after adolescence but if persisting into adulthood may signal that an underlying sleep disorder, such as obstructive sleep apnea, may be fragmenting sleep. Ask a bed partner for more details and talk to a doctor.

That's the problem: ...They are unconscious behaviors that are not made aware to our consciousness. If we were concious of our sleepwalking, it would just be "walking." sleep is our normal state of unconsciousness. Only necessary behaviors are generally permitted during sleep: breathing, shifting our weight for comfort in sleep, etc. Sleep walking or talking can be influenced by other concious persons.
