2 years old: At 2 years we expect children to have a couple short (2 word) sentences. At 3 years this improves to 3-4 word sentences. Remember, development is a spectrum and your child may be slightly ahead or behind these averages. Help them develop their language skills by role modeling and talking to them a lot- explain what you are doing around the house and point out new objects by saying their name.

2-3 years.: The average child will speak with two words at a time around 24 months old and then sentences around 3 years plus. Remember though that there is a wide range of normal and don't compare your child to others.
