There : There is an easy, and encouraging explanation for this. Muscle is denser than fat (an equivalent volume of muscle weighs more than fat). As you improve your diet and increase your exercise your body becomes leaner and healthier. And even though you feel better, and look fitter when you look in the mirror, you may not weigh any less initially. But, as you continue to get more fit and lean you will eventually lose weight. Remember, weight is only one factor in body health. Waist circumference is also tremendously important, because it is very bad for your heart and liver to carry extra fat around your gut (a "spare tire"). Don't be discouraged by the initial lack of weight loss. If you keep up your treadmill routine and eat healthy foods you will start to lose weight. Lastly, healthy weight loss is a slow and steady process. You shouldn't lose more than 1-2 pounds per week.

First your behavior.: You are oscillating between extremes. Cut the binging out and you will lose weight. Remeber, exercise will cause a natural compensatory fluid retention to increase your plasma volume. This is normal physiology. Second, you may be increasing muscle mass. But even if you do not lose weight, you will still obtain health benefits from physical activity!

Look at other causes: There are two answers: 1. You have a slow metabolism from a low thyroid, diabetes, or are taking medications causing weigh gain and 2. Which is more likely, there are other causes of increased calories you are overlooking. Start by writing down what you eat for 3 or 4 days, look at the calories and the carbs, add them up and you will see. Its the only way to solve the problem.

Still too many carbs: The secret to maintaining a healthy weight is in limiting carbohydrate intake. Exercise and well balanced nutrition are very important, but as long as you are consuming too many carbs your body will still hold onto fat. Once you shift your metabolism by eating low carb (paleo diet) you'll start to slowly get back to a healthy weight. Don't expect to drop more than a pound of fat per week.
