Most : Most surgeons will recommend that you wait until your incision has healed before taking a bath or going swimming. You can take showers often immediately with the bandage in place (depending on the bandage) and certainly by the next day. Submerging the wound before it has the chance to heal may slow healing and increase the risk of infection. For this reason it is recommended you wait until the wound has epithelialized (skin has covered over it) which takes 10-14days. Often the surgeon will want to see you for a follow-up visit and if the wounds look good they will approve swimming at that point. Talk with your surgeon to get their thoughts.

3 weeks: Do not immerse wounds for three weeks or later if they are not healed. Shower is ok.

3 wks: Even though after lap appendectomy will resume full activity in few days, most of the surgeons recommend 3 wkd in uncompicated recovery as that is the time collagen formation and completion of healing.
