In general, it is best to have the person with the most experienced obtaining the images, and this is usually the ultrasound technologist. A radiologist or occasionally an obstetrician always analyze every image obtained by the ultrasound technologist. If there are any questions about any of the images, the physician will usually return and image the patient along with the technologist to clarify any of the findings in question. The radiologist or obstetrician uses their clinical background and the appearance of the ultrasound images to identify any areas of concern. The ultrasound technologist and the radiologist form a highly qualified team to ensure that you receive the best service possible.
