A member asked:

The radiologist report said there were interstitial markings on my chest x-ray. does that mean i have interstitial lung disease?

Not necessarily: Interstitial markings on an xray are non specific. Other illnesses such as pulmonary edema (increased fluid in the lungs), viral pneumonia, radiation injury, certain infections and drug injury can all increase interstitail markings on a xray. A more sensitive test called a ct scan will be done to further evaluate your lung finding.

MAYBE.: Interstitial lung disease can present as increased markins and progress. But this may also be seen in copd, early pneumonia or increased lung water.

Possibly: That can definitely mean you have interstitial lung disease, but a lot of other conditions can cause that look on the chest xray. The best way to look at the lungs to determine possibly interstitial lung disease would be a ct scan.
