See below: If this occurs in a child and is not the normal tooth loss but from trauma their could be a problem. If this is in an adult then jaw development is complete but some bone loss will occur around the lost tooth area.

Opposite: At 43 your jaw is done developing. However it is headed in the deterioration direction. Loss of teeth without replacement using an implant will result in accelerated bone loss (resorption). This is due to lack of bone stimulation and pressure placed on the edentulous area (missing tooth area). Implant or tooth or remaining root provide stimulus to the bone and help maintain it.
