A member asked:

Do you also need to transplant the gallbladder when you transplant a pancreas?

No: Although the bile duct from the gall bladder passes through the pancreas, the gall bladder is really part of the liver's drainage system and it is not transplanted with the pancreas.

No: Organs are not really related. The ducts of each are close to each other, but no reason to transplant the gall bladder.

Pancreas/gallbladder: In a word, no. The common bile duct and pancreatic duct are related to each other, but the bile duct is divided, providing drainage for the liver allograft and ligated on the pancreas allograft side.. The gallbladder is always removed from the liver allograft prior to transplanting it. The gallbladder is not routinely transplanted.
