Minor Surgery: A lumpectomy is usually performed under twilight anesthesia, so you will not be aware of the operation. After surgery, you will probably notice a "black-and-blue" type of soreness that should be well controlled with non-narcotic pain medication (i am a big fan of ibuprofen). Most people return to work in a few days and are back to normal activities in a week. Of course, check with your surgeon.

Depends: Obviously depends on the size of the lump. Small ones have very little pain. Large ones more. Also depends on bruising. If you bleed into the breast can have a deep bruise which can make pain last longer. Still, in my experience most women are pretty sore the first week. By the second week the pain is minimal and they do well.
