It depends...: Root canal therapy has been feared by many due to the bad experiences shared by friends or relatives. But in the majority of endodontic treatments, patients do not feel pain. Nitrous oxide and other analgesics or anxiolytic meds can help in allaying fears. Also antibiotic can help eliminate the infection so the local anesthetic will work well. When the tooth is numb, you will not feel pain.

It's Up to You: Using nitrous oxide during any dental procedure can certainly relax the patient. However, the vast majority of root canal treatments are done with only local anesthesia without any additional agents. With that said, if you are very anxious or fearful, and if your dentist thinks it may be a good idea, by all means go for it!

If you are worried, then nitrous oxide ga may be a good idea. One of its effects is shortened perception of time. Which is great for dental visits.
