A few things: A few things can cause sever toothaches. Most of the time it is a deep cavity. It could also be a dying nerve, a dead nerve, an infection (of the tooth or the gums around it) or something else. You should see a dentist to determine the cause and have it taken care of.

See dentist: Most commonly a cavity - tooth decay. Other causes, sinus infection, cracked tooth, grinding of teeth, trauma. Take OTC meds and see dentist for diagnosis.

Infection: Get to a dentist ASAP to find the cause of your pain and the best treatment. In the meantime OTC pain meds can help. Ice may also provide some relief.
