Breast Implants: Three main factors play into how easy it is to feel breast implants under your skin. How large the implant is and what type (silicone/saline), how thick your soft tissues are (skin, fat, existing breast tissue), and where the implant is placed (under or above the muscle. A small, silicone implant placed under the muscle of someone with moderately thick breast tissue can be almost undetectable.

Yes : Initially, you will be able to feel the implants underneath your skin. As time goes by, this becomes less noticeable to most patients. This is especially true with the silicone gel implants. These implants look and feel much more natural than their saline counterparts.

Usually: It is usually possible to feel breast implants. The amount of breast tissue, the position of the implant and the type of implant all impact the degree to which breast implants can be felt. Smaller implants in larger breast are harder to feel, especially with silicone gel implants placed behind the muscle.

Yes.: Whether or not a patient is able to feel breast implants superficially will depend on how much soft tissue/breast tissue coverage is on top of the breast implant. This is one of the many reasons i prefer the use of the submuscular breast implant position. The use of silicone gel breast implants may be helpful in this regard as well.

Yes: Implants can be palpable under the skin. They should be placed under the muscle to add more protection over the implants. Speak to a board certified plastic surgeon. http://www.drschulmanplasticsurgery.com/breast/breast-augmentation/.

Absolutely: Most docs place them under muscle to reduce this risk. Sometimes there is still no muscle coverage at the bottom of the breasts and they still can be palpable, saline more palpable than silicone.
