A member asked:

Is it normal to have severe jaw pain if you are suffering from otitis externa?

Possible: The pain can radiate from the ear down the jaw. Good luck and hope your pain goes away.

Yes: We often get patients who are having jaw pain that we refer to ENT because they have an ear infection. By the same token, we get patients referred from ent's to rule out tooth pain because they can't find anything wrong from their end. Perfectly normal in my opinion.

Rare: "Severe" jaw pain from external otitis would be uncommon, but possible. If external otitis (swimmers ear) is the cause, you should have prompt relief of the jaw pain with antibiotic treatment of the ear. If jaw pain persists, see oral surgeon for diagnosis/recommendations. You may have a TMJ disorder (jaw joint).

It is possible: Infection within the external canal may cause discharge, and pain in your lymph nodes and jaw. See your PCP for diagnosis and treatment.
