Combo treatment. : If you have plantar fasciitis, and hurt most with the first few steps in the morning, the more you can do together, the better: #1: supportive shoes. #2: firm inserts or orthotics. #3: oral antiinflammatories (check with your doctor). #4: stretching your foot and calf. #5: icing (10 min at a time). You may also need physical therapy or cortisone injections.

Arch support: Shoes with improper support may be one cause of your foot pain. Try wearing properly fitting shoes with good arch support.

Heel pain: Pain on the bottom is typically due to plantar fasciitis (www.Drmarkgalland.Com 1/16/13), while pain on the back may come from irritation of the achilles insertion. You can treat both with rice & stretching/ strengthening. You may also need arch support (pf) or a heel lift (achilles), but you should consult a physician before adding orthotics that will alter your foot posture/ mechanics.
