Shin splints?: Is the pain predominantly over the inner shin and somewhat relieved after stopping? Shin splints are more common with higher impact running, but can occur with intense walking program as well, especially with inadequate footwear. Pain is from inflammation of connective tissue sheath around muscle. Usually improves with rest (continue exercise that limits stress in this area) and otc analgesic
