Yes: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (jia) can present with any joint inflammation in children less than 17 yr old. It is accompanied by fever, rash, swollen glands, and sometimes an enlarged liver and spleen. 12 yr olds can also develop multiple swollen joints at the same time. The arthritis can cause joint destruction. Medicines are available to treat the inflammation and prevent joint damage.
