See a doctor.: I would not recommend removing your own toenail. If you've had a trauma to the nail and it is lifting, and bruised or bleeding underneath, see a doctor to make sure you have not broken the bone beneath the nail. If the nail is ingrown or painful, your doctor can numb your toe and remove it in the office, in a controlled environment. I never recommend self-administered "bathroom surgery"!
