Nerve pain: Gabapentin alleviates nerve pain. It does not heal the nerve nor help recovery. It gets rid of tingling, buzzing, prickling, shooting, and burning pain but does not get rid of numbness. Metanx can help with nerve recovery. They can be taken together. You likely suffer from toxic neuropathy due to chemo-- most patients have numbness longterm; there is no cure. So sorry-- i pray it isn't painful.

Gabapent doesnt cure: Gabapentin is in the anticonvulsant drug class but is rarely used as a primary agent to treat seizure. Its frequently used to "calm" overactive nerves by altering ion channels on the nerve (theorized). Gabapentin does not cure neuropathy. It's goal is to improve the pain associated with neuropathy, regardless of neuropathy cause. If meds don't help, ask doctor about spinal cord stimulation trial!

Neuritic pain: Chemo damages nerves. They can die, recover fully, or partial recovery with dysesthesia. Gabapentin (neurontin) helps during recovery to reduce pain. Once recovery period is over medication rarely helps. You are well past recovery period. Gabapentin should not affect other meds.
