It varies: A dental abscess can develop very rapidly but in other cases may take days to weeks to even years before an abscess is noticed. Regular dental exams are needed to prevent problems.

Depends: Normally it can take months for an abscess to develop but it also depends on what caused the abscess in the first place. No matter what an abscess needs to be treated or it can become a major problem.
