It means the surgery: Was right for you. Your tonsils were enlarged and friable and needed to come out.

Mushy: Sounds like your tonsils were large and fragile and broke apart easily. Realize tonsils are not strong like bones, tendons or muscles and have little "glue" between them. Does not mean that it is more dangerous, just means there is a higher chance of incomplete excision.
