Zygoma: Cheek bone fracture tx depends on the extent of the fracture. If minor & with no dislocation, painkillers & soft diet is recommended. If displaced fracture, a surgeon does the wiring of the bone, which can be an ENT surgeon, a plastic surgeon or general surgeon.

The fractured cheekbone requires careful evaluation and most often it is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, ENT, or plastic--all who receive the appropriate training to do the procedures. Sometimes apparently "nondisplaced" or "minor" fractures --masked early on by massive swelling as "insignificant"-- may go unrecognized as blocking mouth opening and/or will become bad cosmetic defects. This very sturdy bone requires a strong plate and screws to reposition it and hold it in place while it heals. For this reason the cheekbone requiring operation is not likely to be corrected by wires. A general surgeon is not likely to be repairing cheek bone fractures as this is not part of training and/or experience in most GS programs.

Maxillofacial: The most thoroughly trained doctors for this would be plastic surgeons who have completed a Craniofacial Surgery fellowship or Oral Surgeons who go on to Maxillofacial surgery fellowships. Otolaryngologists may also have special training in this area. Good luck.
